Franklin Miller was born in New York City. As a youngster he demonstrated a talent for drawing and painting, which was encouraged by his parents. When his parents moved to the suburbs he changed high schools, dropped his art studies and eventually chose an engineering career. While always keeping a drawing pencil nearby, he spent more than thirty years as an electrical engineer. Shortly before leaving industry, he reinstated his studio, which continues to be a refuge where he produces portraits, still life paintings and landscapes. He has used his post-industry freedom to study with painters of note.

Although Barklin House demands a good deal of his time, he still spends many hours in his studio. You may view some representative works in watercolor, pastel and oil on this and the following page, as well as in his studio. A number of his works also decorate the walls of Barklin House.
